At the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP27), held in Egypt from 6 to 18 November, world leaders come together to take immediate action towards preventing air pollution and global warming and to make transition of the global economy away from fossil fuels.
At the Conference, the Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning, Nasser Nuredini, confirmed the country's commitment to taking its share of global obligations to achieve the Paris climate goals.
We, as signatory nation of the UNFCCC and the Paris agreement, share similar expectorations for the up-coming COP, especially in terms of adaptation, financing and transparency. We seek to accelerate global climate action through emissions reduction, scaled-up adaptation efforts and enhanced flows of appropriate finance. We have adopted a set of documents necessary for decarbonised growth and we are finishing the legal frame. We recognize that 'just transition' remains a priority for developing countries worldwide.
The Republic of North Macedonia, as a Western Balkan country, also shares similar challenges in terms of achieving the objectives set by the international community, as well as those set by European legislation and ministerial decisions within the Energy Community.
We are all committed towards implementation of the Green agenda for the WB, which requires vision, leadership as well as a set of strategic, legal, organisational and procedural infrastructure, as well as in fulfilling the prerequisites for integrated climate action. COP27 will be a moment for countries to fulfill their pledges and commitments towards delivering the objectives of the Paris Agreement to enhance the implementation of the Convention.
On the margins of the Conference, Minister Nuredini held bilateral meetings with his colleagues and executive directors of several international institutions.
More than 100 world leaders will speak at the gathering in Egypt, most from developing countries, demanding greater accountability from the richest, most polluting nations.
