TRAINING ON "ADAPTATION TO CLIMATE CHANGE"

On February 10, 2021, ZOR Milieukontakt Macedonia organized the first training on "Adaptation to Climate Change". This training is the first in a series of trainings conducted within the CBIT project "Strengthening the institutional and technical capacity to improve transparency on climate change under the Paris Agreement (CBIT project)" of the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning ( MoEPP), implemented in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF).


The aim of the workshop was to strengthen the participants communication skills related to impact assessment, conducting a vulnerability analysis and preparing a report on climate change adaptation.

The workshop was attended by 50 representatives of public institutions, representatives of the MoEPP, UNDP, MANU, GEF, municipalities in RNM and representatives of civil society organizations working in the field of environment.

Ms. Teodora Obradovich Grncharovska, State Advisor for Climate Change in the MoEPP and contact person for the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, presented the existing and planned policy and strategic framework, institutional engagements on the topic of climate change adaptation, national progress (including reporting obligations) and all that has been achieved in relation to the UNFCC commitments, the 3rd National Communication on Climate Change and the preparation of the 4th Report, as well as local efforts and examples of climate change adaptation.

Mr. Stole Georgiev made a detailed review of the term climate, climate change and adaptation to climate change, what do we mean by climate change, what is the impact and vulnerability to climate change. Within this presentation, local experiences were listed, applied adaptation measures that resulted from the local strategies for climate change for 12 municipalities in RNM, which will be developed within the project of ZOR Milieukontakt Macedonia.

Mr. Daniel Josifovski, representative of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, coordination with economic departments and investments, within the presentation on planning for adaptation to climate change at the national level presented the possibilities for using the Green Climate fund, the need for adaptation and what activities can be presented as adaptation. He also reviewed the process of drafting a National Adaptation Plan, as well as the expected results of the process.

By Dr. Natasa Markovska from MANU, Methodology for identification and priority of the development of measures / activities for adaptation to climate change was presented. The methodology is based on identifying adaptation options, types of adaptation activities, resources for identifying adaptation options, approaches to adaptation, adaptation options, evaluating adaptation options, and so on.
