For the first time, Macedonian enhanced Nationally Determined Contributions will incorporate the agriculture sector, introducing measures that will not only support adaptation but will also include actions to mitigate climate change.
Rural woman can play major role in adopting climate resilient farming practices. In a country where only 5% of rural woman own land, Ms. Vaska Mojsovska breaks all stereotypes by farming and managing her 70 hectares of vineyards. Mojsovska is a pioneer in introducing climate resilient agriculture practices, but she is also a leader. As Chairman of the National Farmers Federation, she successfully lobbied the government to adopt recommendations on addressing gender aspect of climate change. Asked what it would take to empower rural women in North Macedonia, she said that “women in our country need to have greater self-confidence; first they have to believe in themselves and in what they want to do, to have greater courage when making decisions for starting a business of their own, and of course they need financial support from the banks. Believe in yourself, educate yourself and be tireless!”
