ENERGY EFFICIENT SCHOOLS

Based on the assessment of the condition of the buildings, a series of energy efficiency measures were undertaken (the buildings were reconstructed, insulated and the old wooden windows were replaced by new ones, 470 new neon lights and 5 sensor activated lights were installed in the buildings of the primary school Gerg Kastriot-Skenderbeg;

· Several trainings were organized about climate change, energy consumption and energy efficiency, and practical examples of energy efficiency were presented, followed by a questions and answers session. The trainings were attended not only by students and their teachers from the school, but also by managers and maintenance officers of the public buildings in the municipality;

· A debate about the local energy efficiency strategy for the Municipality of Arachinovo was organized. During the debate participants proposed measures and activities which need to be undertaken in order to reduce the energy consumption in these public buildings;

· Communication materials in Macedonian and in Albanian were prepared, published and distributed (4 types of posters, brochures, stickers) with educational contents on energy efficiency;

· It is predicted that GHG emissions will be reduced for at least 12,58 tones and that energy savings will amount to about 19,2 % as a result of the changes made in the buildings part of the projects in the Municipality of Arachinovo;

· The project activities were covered by the media and information were published on the web sites of the local and national media, as well as on the national radio.
