On January 22, 2021, an online discussion was held on the topic of climate change and education, with a review of the results and recommendations of the first comprehensive analysis of the inclusion of this issue in the Macedonian education system based on both segments of education:

- analysis of the formal education sector (online research of the available curricula of preschool, primary and secondary education (and part of the available textbooks), as well as of the study programs of the accredited higher education institutions);

- analysis of the non-formal education sector (verified programs of the Center for Adult Education and review of part of the offer of trainings and trainings related to the subject issues of the non-governmental organizations).

The workshop was attended by several representatives of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning, university professors and representatives of several NGOs that are actively working in the field of climate change.

The main comments during the discussion referred to the possibilities for including this issue in the new conception of education, the necessary technical capacities in schools and the training of teachers who would be involved in this process. The need to link to the national economic reform program was also emphasized.

This analysis was prepared by Dr. Radmil Polenakovikj, in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning, the Ministry of Education and Science and representatives of the academic community, within the project "Fourth National Plan and Third Biennial Climate Change Report to the Framework Convention United Nations Climate Change (UNFCCC) ”, with technical and financial support from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

UNDP also in the past period (October and November) organized a consultation process for youth involvement in the problem of climate change involving about 300 young people, most of whom stressed the need for strategic investment in green education, which tells us that there is interest. by young people for the inclusion of climate change in education.
