This training was prepared in the framework of the project “Strengthening Institutional and Technical Macedonian Capacities to Enhance Transparency in the Framework of the Paris Agreement” implemented with financial and technical support from GEF and UNDP. And it was conducted by CRPM Consulting.
Gender and climate change trainings are part of a series of trainings that highlight the challenges and opportunities of different sectors related to climate change. These trainings are of great benefit to policy makers, researchers and all current and future actors in processes, including network of persons working in the field of gender equality and climate change at the administrative level, comprising 319 representatives on both national and local level (61% women), all dedicated to mitigating the effects of climate change, as well as adapting to them. As part of the project, a Training Manual - Gender Equality and Climate Change, based on the results of a survey on gender mainstreaming in key national climate change policies has been made.
The results of the Survey revealed that it is necessary to strengthen the capacities of the main stakeholders working in gender and climate change (CC), so this training series targeted representatives of municipalities who are engaged in achieving gender equality and equal opportunities.
In order to ensure mainstreaming of gender in the main policies on administrative and decision making level, it is necessary to strengthen the knowledge about the incumbent institutional gender machinery on central and local level, to raise awareness about the relatedness between gender and CC, more specifically to assess and measure the impact of climate change, policies and measures and their link to gender equality.
On the other hand, these training series were substantial when it came to gender sensitizing, that is to strengthen the capacities of the representatives of the municipalities and national institutions to create nuanced policies which will consider gender inequalities related to that policy area. The inter-sectional and inter-sectoral approach that these training series encouraged and promoted aimed at motivating the representatives of the municipalities and gender equality coordinators from national institutions to sustain institutional relations with representatives of the incumbent gender machinery. In that sense, this approach will enable them to have more nuanced and inclusive policies.
